Day 01
After a lovely 23 hours in transit London didn't disappoint. The highlight of the day was definitely the Making Nature exhibition at the Welcome Gallery, there is so much beauty in nature and having spent the summer in paradise this exhibition was another gentle reminder of this fact. I found that over the summer my love of birds especially grows and grows because birds are weird and smart and vicious- in the exhibition I found this beautiful quote about birds that Ludwig Koch wrote in May 1940's in the London times, "War or no war, bird life is going on and even the armed powers of the three dictators cannot prevent it". Also the artist talk with David Clarke was especially stimulating for me as I begin to shape an idea for the project / my practice; salt, silver and earth could play a very interesting roll in my up and coming work. I also really enjoyed the playfulness of Mah Rana's brooch series and I think she had some interesting things to say about the story that jewellery tells. Finally we ended the day by dipping our toes into the ever tumultuous realm of political Islamic art and jewellery, again demonstrating not only the beauty but the diversity in the world.
